Princeton Prize
Deadline:  February 5th

This Prize from Princeton and their alumni group recognizes a student in grades 9 through 12 who has made an impact in his or her community working to improve race relations.  The winning student will receive a cash award of up to $1000 (the Prize board may decide to split the amount between several students) and best of all, receives an all-expense-paid weekend at Princeton University to participate in a symposium on race relations with students from around the country and with Princeton faculty.  I see this symposium weekend as having the power to make a life-changing impact on a young person from our state.
The application asks the student to answer 4 questions about his or her activity promoting race relations.  There is a supplementary form for an adult supporter to complete, confirming the student's work and supporting the student's character.  This is not an essay contest.  While of course it will be helpful to write clearly and well, we will choose the student who has done interesting and verifiable work before the student who has written a brilliant essay.  There is no connection between winning the Princeton Prize and admission to Princeton University, and we will not be assessing the student's academic skills.
