Lawson State Community College
Mechatronics Program

Lawson is beginning a new program this Fall that is mirrored after the Mercedes program with Shelton State Community College.  Lawson has partnered with Adah International and Brose to offer a 3-year Associate’s degree in Mechatronics.

How it works – Students will be in a theory/work rotation: 1 semester of theory/classroom time at the Bessemer campus of Lawson State Community College and the next semester on-the-job work at Brose Tuscaloosa.  Brose will pay a weekly stipend of $300, and hourly pay for working is $13.25/hour for the 1st year, $14/hour the 2nd year, & $15/hour for the 3rd year of apprenticeship.  Once a student graduates, he/she can expect to earn around $45-50k per year.

Who should apply?  Students who are unsure of what they may want to do when they graduate high school, like to work with their hands, and are interested Auto Mechanics, Robotics, or Mechanical Engineering.  Brose has a tuition reimbursement program for their employees who want an advanced degree in Engineering.

Requirements – 2017 graduates who have been admitted to Lawson State for Fall 2017, have a high school GPA of 3.0, must be able to pass a background check & drug screening, and will be required to bring their transcript and WorkKeys scores to the interview.

Contact Mrs. Roy/Mrs. McGill if you are interested!
